Because of their role as a source of information and their connection to the communities they serve, media can have a big impact on the way the public views mental health, suicide, and addiction
We encourage members of the Upper Peninsula media to use language that reduces stigma when reporting on any of the below issues. It’s not about being politically correct; it’s about creating a community where people feel safe reaching out for help.
When people feel they can seek for support, they’re more likely to access and complete treatment. This results in healthier, safer communities for everyone.
